Do You Without dropping the ball

He said to his date ‘I’m taking some time off to do what I love.” Her response “most people can’t afford to make that choice.” His reply “Can’t afford to or afraid to?”

I did a little happy dance in my seat when I heard Ravi’s response from the hit Netflix movie Wedding Season.

Being an Indian American, there are so many relatable things about this movie. However, you don’t have to be Indian to think you can’t afford to “do you.”

I hear it all the time and I’ve lived it myself for a long time.

The misunderstanding that either you do the right, smart, responsible thing or you selfishly focus on what you want and do what you love.

People think what holds them back is money, lack of confidence, not educated enough, no time etc,

I will not deny that all of these things can be constraints, but the real thing that holds most people back from creating work and a life they love is Courage.

Good news is that courage can be cultivated.

Courage is one of my top personal values and a foundation for the coaching work I do with my clients.

I love this word because it’s inward and feminine, courage comes from the French word “coeur” meaning heart. It’s also has a very actionable masculine flair.

If you know me, you know that so much of my work is around helping people with masculine/feminine integration or in other words merging “being” with “doing.”

So when I was invited on a podcast called Hope Motivates Action, I was so excited because the title of the show definitely has both feminine and masculine vibes.

Courage is the last thing I ever thought I would find myself talking about. I may seem bold (and I do have determination) but I’m the biggest scaredy cat. I mean I am literally scared of cats!

We didn’t determine a title before the show was recorded so when Lindsey sent me the link for the episode, I felt so happy that the essence of my story, message and coaching shined through as courage.

The truth is - you are not born with courage it’s a habit that you can strengthen and I’m excited to help you take the first steps towards that.

Take a listen to the podcast episode here.

You’ll even get to hear my response to that insidious question around how to choose to focus on yourself and do work you love when there is so much at stake.
